Catalano family deals with viticulture from three generation. The father Totò devoted himself to viticulture starting from the grandfather’s property in “Contrada Spina Santa” assigned by the agrarian reform in the ‘50s of the last century. Later he expanded the property to 4 hectares and planted Nero d’Avola 40 years ago. His son Rosario, after his studies in biology and then in oenology decided to gain experiences working for other wine companies with important winemakers in the “ Cerasuolo di Vittoria” area.

In recent years, the wine company, managed by Totò and Rosario, increased the production planting new vineyards with different cultivar in one of the most suitable soil for the production og high quality wines, “contrada Arancio Mautana”, between the two towns of Gela and Butera, where among r-the chalk quarries at about 400 metres a.s.l. other 5 hectares of vineyards has planted.

Today, thanks to the experience gained and the productive and commercial know-how, Catalano vinegrowers produce wines born from hard work, experience and love for their territory.

In 2022 began the restoration of an old farmhouse that today houses the wine cellar and the tasting rooms with panoramic outdoor areas.

AN AREA HIGHLY SUITED TO VITICULTURE

We are located in the central south of Sicily, on the hills near the town of Butera in the inland area of Gela Gulf inside a complex limestone geosite, near the Castello Federiciano. A very ventilated area that overlooks on the Mediterranean Sea, Sicily channel. The quality of the wines is closely related to the particular "terroir"; a perfect mix of environmental characteristics (soil, climate, water availability, microfauna) and human activities (organic farming, manual processing, respect for habitats). The relationship between the vine and the soil is crucial for obtaining the flavour and sensory characteristics of our wines.
